West Germany were held to a 1-1 draw by Colombia in their final Group D match at the San Siro. Littbarski’s second-half header put the hosts ahead, but Rincon struck deep into stoppage time to secure a point and ensure Colombia’s progress to the knockout stage. Germany topped the pool.
Trivia
This was Colombia’s first World Cup point since 1962, won courtesy of Rincon’s dramatic late equaliser. René Higuita’s sweeper-keeper role became iconic, narrowly avoiding disaster with several high-risk sorties. Littbarski’s goal was his only strike of Italia ’90.
