Match overview
Latvia stunned the fancied Czechs by snatching a shock lead on the stroke of half-time, but sustained second-half pressure finally told. Milan Baroš levelled with a crisp finish before substitute Marek Heinz volleyed the late winner, rewarding Pavel Nedvěd’s relentless creativity and preserving the Group D favourites’ perfect start.
Trivia
This was Latvia’s first ever goal and first lead at a major tournament. Marek Heinz’s decisive strike came only 28 minutes into his Euro debut, while Nedvěd created at least six chances-the most by any player in Aveiro that summer.
