Match overview
The USA drew 1-1 with Switzerland in the first-ever indoor World Cup match. Bregy gave Switzerland the lead before Wynalda equalized for the hosts just before halftime. The unique conditions inside the Silverdome created extreme heat and humidity that affected both teams significantly.
Trivia
This historic match was the first World Cup game played indoors, but the lack of air conditioning made the Silverdome uncomfortably hot and humid. Swiss coach Roy Hodgson admitted his team hadn’t prepared for the extreme conditions inside the dome, which became a major talking point.
