Lazio lifted the final Cup Winners’ Cup trophy after a thrilling 2–1 victory over Mallorca at Villa Park in Birmingham.
Vieri opened the scoring early on, but Mallorca responded quickly through Dani. In the second half, it was Nedved who struck the decisive goal with a powerful left-footed finish.
It was Lazio’s first major European triumph and a fitting farewell to the competition, which was being discontinued after this edition.
