Match overview

Werder Bremen secured their first European title with a disciplined performance in the 1992 Cup Winners’ Cup final against Monaco.

Allofs opened the scoring before half-time, and Rufer added a second early in the second half to seal the win.

Despite Monaco’s efforts and possession spells, Rehhagel’s tactical setup proved decisive at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.

Trivia

Klaus Allofs’ goal in the final marked the last major achievement in his career before retirement the same year.

The final was the first European final for coach Arsène Wenger, who would later make history with Arsenal.
