Match overview
Brazil claimed a 2–1 away victory over Bolivia in La Paz at 3,600 metres of altitude. Sócrates opened the scoring early in the match, but Aragonés equalised before halftime. Reinaldo sealed the win in the second half. The match was marked by several yellow cards and one red for Toninho Cerezo.
The result gave Brazil an important lead in the 1982 World Cup qualification group, despite the difficult playing conditions in Bolivia.
The physical intensity and the altitude challenged both teams throughout the game.
Trivia
This was one of the toughest venues in the qualification tournament due to altitude. The red card shown to Toninho Cerezo marked a rare dismissal in Brazil’s campaign, but the team held firm for a crucial away win.
