Match overview
Real Madrid delivered a dominant performance in Hungary to win the first leg of the 1985 UEFA Cup final. Goals from Míchel, Santillana and Valdano gave the Spanish giants a strong 3–0 advantage going into the second leg.
Videoton struggled to contain Real’s attack throughout the match, despite a strong start and vocal home support. Butragueño and Gallego controlled the midfield, while Santillana added his usual touch of class up front.
This result ended Real Madrid’s long wait for a European title since 1966 and re-established their presence on the continental stage.
Trivia
This was Real Madrid’s first European trophy win in 19 years. The 3–0 away victory was considered one of the most complete performances by the team during the 1980s.
