Match overview
Croatia’s World Cup debut produced an entertaining win. Stanić finished Stimac’s flick-on to open the scoring, but Jamaica levelled on the stroke of half-time through Earle’s powerful header. Prosinecki restored the lead with a curling shot and Šuker sealed matters on the break. Blažević’s men controlled midfield for long spells, while Jamaica’s pace troubled Croatia only sporadically.
Trivia
This was the first World Cup match featuring two debutant nations since 1974. Robbie Earle became Jamaica’s first World Cup scorer, while Robert Prosinecki became the only player to score in World Cups for two different countries, having netted for Yugoslavia in 1990.
