Match overview
Boniek produced a sensational hat-trick to fire Poland past Belgium in Barcelona. Poland dominated from the start, with Boniek opening the scoring early and adding two more either side of half-time. Belgium struggled to cope with Poland’s pace and movement, and the result put Poland in pole position in the group.
Trivia
Boniek’s hat-trick was one of the finest individual performances of the 1982 World Cup. Poland’s win set up a decisive match against the Soviet Union for a place in the semi-finals.
