Brazil defeated Romania 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara to secure their place in the quarter-finals. Pelé opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Jairzinho doubled Brazil’s lead three minutes later. Romania pulled one back through Florea Dumitrache in the 34th minute to make it 2-1 at halftime. Pelé restored Brazil’s two-goal advantage with his second goal in the 67th minute, but Romania never gave up and Emeric Dembrovschi scored a late goal in the 84th minute to set up a tense finish.
