Match overview
Denmark produced a stunning upset by defeating defending champions France to top Group A. Rommedahl’s early strike caught the French off guard, while Tomasson’s second-half effort sealed a famous victory. France’s star-studded lineup struggled to create clear chances against a well-organised Danish defence, ending their tournament in shocking fashion.
Trivia
France became the first defending World Cup champions to be eliminated at the group stage without scoring a single goal. The defeat marked the end of Roger Lemerre’s tenure as French coach and sparked widespread debate about the team’s preparation.
