Match overview

Argentina reached the World Cup final with a superb performance inspired by Maradona. The captain scored twice in the second half, the first a brilliant solo effort and the second a composed finish after a perfectly timed run. Belgium defended bravely but could not contain Maradona’s genius. Argentina controlled the match and deservedly advanced to the final.

Trivia

Maradona’s two goals took his tally to five for the tournament. Argentina reached their second final in three World Cups, while Belgium’s golden generation finished fourth, their best ever result at the time.
