Match overview
Rotterdam witnessed a record Euro score as the co-hosts overwhelmed Yugoslavia. Kluivert completed a hat-trick inside 53 minutes, aided by Govedarica’s own goal, before Overmars struck twice late on. Milošević’s stoppage-time tap-in offered scant consolation; the rampant Dutch coasted into a semi-final with Italy.
Trivia
Kluivert’s treble was only the second hat-trick in European Championship history and his five-goal tournament haul equalled Marco van Basten’s Dutch record. The 6-1 margin remains the biggest knockout win at a Euro finals.
