Match overview
In one of the most dramatic finals in World Cup history, West Germany came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the overwhelming favorites Hungary 3-2. The \”Miracle of Bern\” marked West Germany’s first World Cup title, ending Hungary’s four-year unbeaten streak in stunning fashion.
Trivia
This was the first World Cup Final refereed by an Englishman. Hungary had beaten West Germany 8-3 in the group stage, but couldn’t replicate the result. Helmut Rahn’s second goal sealed the win and went down as one of the most iconic moments in German football history.
